Snacks will be served after the AGM The present committee wish to encourage younger members to join the GCS committee, who can bring new ideas and move with the times, we also need committee members who can be more active, efficient and work together as a united group. Please attend the AGM and nominate yourself if feel you can bring about better positive changes and take GCS to the next level. The present committee has already implemented the change towards the next level of improvements We would like to encourage all members to attend the AGM meeting and put your points forward for the running of your GCS. GCS will be celebrating HOLI @ Stanmer Park – 5th March 2014

Dear Fellow Members Jai Shree Krishna. We hope you all enjoyed the festivities from last year’s celebrations and the Bangalore Dreams concert on 8th Feb 2105. The next festival we can look forward to this year is the celebration of Holi. The forthcoming AGM will be held 29th March 2015. G CS will be celebrating HOLI at Stanmer Park Holi 5th March 2014 Location – Stanmer Park, weather permitting Time 8.30m pm to 9.30 pm Due to the Health & Safety issues attached to this event, we would ask all members attending Holi that they be aware of these issues. The GCS cannot accept any responsibility for any incidents that may occur. Quick Facts The colourful festival of Holi is celebrated on Phalgun Purnima (full Moon) which comes in February end or early March. Holi festival has an ancient origin and celebrates the triumph of ‘good’ over ‘bad’. The colourful festivals bridges the social gap and renew sweet relationships. On this day, people hug and wish each other ‘Happy Holi’. Holi celebration begins with lighting up of bonfire on Holi. Numerous legends & stories associated with Holi celebration makes the festival more exuberant and vivid. People rub ‘gulal’ and ‘abeer’ on each other’s’ faces and cheer up saying, “bura na maano Holi Hai”. Holi also gives a wonderful chance to send blessings and love to dear ones.

Rhythm and Raag – Free Trial Taster session – Feb 5th at 6.00 pm @ Patcham Memorial Hall

A warm welcome to “Rhythm and Raag” Please find attached information on our mission and purpose on setting up this Indian Art Academy with Reputed Artists in Brighton. We start the third term with a free trial taster session on Feb 5th at 6.00 pm.  This is an opportunity to come and meet the team, experience the class and of course, enroll for yourself and children!Class Venue – Patcham Memorial Hall.10 classes this term. Time – TBC.Cost – £80. It is ‘one of its kind’ training program for students, teaching trademark dance styles like Shaimak’s Indo Jazz and Shaimak’s Bollywood Jazz.  During this term workshop, students are taught a complete dance routine and trained in the various disciplines of stage performance. The class begins with 25 minutes dance warm up ‘Dancercise’ and the next 35 minutes is concentrated on dance training that will include technical work and choreography.We run Bharatnatyam Lessons for kids (4.30pm – 5.15pm) and Adults (5.45pm – 6.30pm) and half hour theory lessons . She is intensely rooted in south Indian classical music alongside having formal western classical music education. Adding on to this, she has flourished as a performer and composer, exploring lush ground in the crossover between Indian music and a variety of world music & contemporary flavours. Her violin playing has a nice blend of ‘bhava’ [musical expression and emotion] & fingering technique, a result of three ‘decades of experimentation’ as per a critic. Ms. Srikanth is featured in many major global music events and venues like WOMAD – UK, Red Violin Festival – Wales, BBC Proms, Royal Albert Hall, Wales Millenium Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall & The Music Academy – Chennai. She was conferred the Fellowship from the Trinity College of Music, London for South Indian Carnatic music. Having played violin for nearly 200 Indian films, she is currently working on numerous large scale music experiments – in a way bringing communities together. Jyotsna is the Artistic Director of the London International Arts Festival (www.liaf.co.uk) and Dhruv Arts (www.dhruvarts.org). Bangalore Dreams is Indian Contemporary Music. The Indian violin is in the forefront with the backing of drums/ethnic percussion and keyboards/piano. On Feb 8th a mixture of fusion, devotional, light classical, bhajans and Bollywood music will be presented to cater to all tastes of the audience.
