Meeting place, time & other important advice for Sunday 20/08/2017 (London Trip)

Just three days to go now for our Buckingham Palace & Duck Tour Trip. Everyone who is coming, please observe the following instructions & advice to make sure everything runs smoothly on the day:  Please note that we will be meeting at Withdean Stadium Car Park on Sunday 20th August 2017 at 7.00am. It will be a long day so please make sure you have your medicines, snacks and drinks etc with you, and keep them accessible throughout the day. If you are unwell before the trip please do not risk coming for obvious reasons, as it will be a long day. We aim to be back by 10.30pm, but this is of course dependent on traffic.  We request that everybody brings one plate of food and drink, disposable plates, cutlery and cups for a picnic around 12 noon or so.  If you are doing the DUCK  TOUR then I will give you separate instructions on the day. If you are not doing it, you may wish to book yourself a trip on the London Eye, Aquarium, Movie Museum or any other similar attraction. Please do this in advance online to save you trouble of queues. We will all need to meet back at the coach at around 11.45am approx. Please be punctual at all times, as we do not want to leave anyone behind, but cannot hold up the proceedings, so would have to continue without late individuals. Buckingham Palace is at 1.45pm so please make sure you meet after picnic at the designated point.  After Buckingham Palace we will go to a temple and then evening dinner at Pradips on Kenton Road in North London. After dinner we will leave for home to arrive at Withdean Stadium Car Park approx 10.30pm.  Many Thanks  Gopal A. Patel

Rupa Suchak is fundraising for her charity project in Nepal

This summer I’m hoping to work on a project with the charity VSO, in Lamjung, Nepal which should be both challenging and exciting. I have gone through a number of interviews and assessment centres and pleased that have been picked by the VSO to undertake this project. I will be staying in Lamjung for three months working on VSO’s education programme for young girls. The programme is called “sisters for sisters” and it aims to provide better access to education and make sure that enough girls get a chance to go into secondary schools. I’m really passionate about girls being given equal opportunity – especially in the Hindu community – where sometimes girls are treated as “second-class” citizens. Most of Nepal is Hindu. I will be living with a local family – which I’m sure will be an experience – and working with the local community to improve awareness and support for girls’ education. This will be a challenging experience and it will take me away from home comforts, but I am very excited to help improve the well-being and education of young people in Nepal, so it is all worth it. I’m hoping to raise £1500 in order to help support VSO continue this programme and all of the other programmes that it has in developing countries.” I would be really grateful if you can sponsor me please. Donating to my JustGiving page is easy-just follow this link and click donate: http://www.justgiving.com/owner-email/pleasesponsor/Rupa-Suchak1 JustGiving sends your donation straight to Voluntary Service Overseas so it’s a quick and safe way to donate. Thank you, Rupa

Artists open house at the BMECP

Black and Minority Ethnic Community Partnership (BMECP), a charitable trust, provides a space for the community from different cultures and backgrounds to meet and share their skills and knowledge. It champions BME groups and others such as migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. Near Brighton Station, it opens its doors for the first time, to display a broad variety of disciplines by local amateur and professional artists. The exhibition will guide you to an array of exciting visual delights bursting with passion, subtlety and creativity. You will have the opportunity to see local artist Emily Jolly demonstrating watercolour painting on Sunday 7th from 2.00 to 4.00 pm. Also exhibiting is Lester McCollin Springer, an internationally known Cuban visual artist with a unique and dramatic style, who uses Caribbean colours to paint his people and their journey, exploring human values and culture through his perspective as a black man. You will be able to meet some of the artists whilst enjoying tasty ethnic snacks in the BMECP café.
