GCS Event: Holi Celebrations 2018 [Cancelled]

Dear Gujarati Cultural Society Members, Due to adverse weather conditions and forecast GCS have decided to cancel the Holi event due to take place at Waterhall on Thursday 1 March this is in the interest of public health and safety which is our primary concern . GCS Holi Fire (Holika Dayan) 12th March 2017 – Stanmer Park, Brighton (7.30pm)

Holi is a Hindu Spring Festival in India. It signifies the victory of good over evil, the arrival of Spring, the end of Winter and for a chance to meet others, play and laugh, forgive and forget, repair broken relationships and a thanksgiving for a good harvest. It lasts for two days but being in another country we can only meet at the bonfire. But this year for the first time the GCS will be holding the Holi Bonfire on Sunday 12th March 2017 and the Rangwali Holi on Sunday 19th March 2017 from 1pm weather permitting. Venue for colour festival to be announced. Please see website and Facebook. Entry Free but donations of snack foods and drinks (warm) welcome at both events or please own. Please let a contact for GCS know by 5th March 2017 if coming to one or both events for catering purposes. In the colour festival, bags of colour will be available for a small charge. GCS will be celebrating HOLI @ Stanmer Park – 5th March 2014

The next festival we can look forward to this year is the celebration of Holi. The forthcoming AGM will be held 29th March 2015. G CS will be celebrating HOLI at Stanmer Park Holi 5th March 2014 Location – Stanmer Park, weather permitting Time 8.30m pm to 9.30 pm Due to the Health & Safety issues attached to this event, we would ask all members attending Holi that they be aware of these issues. Quick Facts The colourful festival of Holi is celebrated on Phalgun Purnima (full Moon) which comes in February end or early March. Holi festival has an ancient origin and celebrates the triumph of ‘good’ over ‘bad’. The colourful festivals bridges the social gap and renew sweet relationships. On this day, people hug and wish each other ‘Happy Holi’. Holi celebration begins with lighting up of bonfire on Holi. Numerous legends & stories associated with Holi celebration makes the festival more exuberant and vivid. People rub ‘gulal’ and ‘abeer’ on each other’s’ faces and cheer up saying, “bura na maano Holi Hai”. Holi also gives a wonderful chance to send blessings and love to dear ones.
